Today, in the wake of the global fiscal crisis of 2008-2009 and faced with rising fuel prices, many USA manufacturers are moving their operations back to the USA, in order to capitalize on cheaper shipping costs and a massive pool of skilled laborers. According to a recent AMR Research survey of manufacturing executives, 21% plan to increase their manufacturing activities in the USA in 2010. Last June, American construction and mining equipment giant Caterpillar announced the company plans to invest $1 billion in a “multiyear capacity expansion plan” for five plants in Illinois. USA suppliers and American distributors are thrilled by the news, as many of their core products will once again be “Made in America”.
